Wesgro Trade will be leading a Halal Outward Selling Mission (OSM) to Nigeria from 10-14 September 2018. The unit is currently in the process of recruiting Western Cape companies for the mission.
Nigeria, as one of the largest Muslim populations in West Africa, with the Pew Research Centre estimating that it is between 48.5% and 50.4%. Nigeria often referred to as the Giant of Africa, owing it its large population and economy. It is the seventh most populous country in the world. Nigeria is classified as an emerging market, and has already reached middle income status according to the World Bank, with its abundant supply of natural resources, a well-developed financial, legal, communications, transport sectors and its stock exchange (the Nigerian Stock Exchange), which is the second largest in Africa after the JSE.
Nigeria’s GDP (PPP) was valued at USD1.1trn in 2016, making Nigeria the 24th largest economy in the world. According to Citigroup, Nigeria will achieve the highest average GDP growth in the world between 2010 and 2050. Nigeria also has a wide array of underexploited mineral resources which include natural gas, coal, bauxite, tantalite, gold, tin, iron ore, limestone, niobium, lead and zinc. Despite huge deposits of these natural resources, the mining industry in Nigeria is still in its infancy. Nigeria has one of the fastest growing telecommunications markets in the world with major emerging market operators like MTN, Etisalat, Zain and Globacom boasting their largest and most profitable centres in the country.
This mission is aimed at generating business opportunities for Western Cape companies, wanting to establish a foothold into the Nigerian Halal market, as well as branding the Western Cape as a halal destination that displays a high quality of international manufacturing and certification standards.
