Food and Hotel Asia 2018

Greetings fellow Western Cape exporters,

Wesgro will be leading a trade delegation to Singapore to attend the Food and Hotel Asia from 24-27 April in Singapore.  More information about the show. http://www.foodnhotelasia.com/.

Singapore is an important market for the Western Cape. South Africa exported goods to Singapore to the value of USD431m and imported goods to the value of USD380m in 2016. A sharp decrease in the import of refined petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals from Singapore saw the position change from being a consistent net importer of goods from Singapore, to that of a net exporter. The Western Cape has consistently been a net importer of goods from Singapore. In 2016 the Western Cape exported goods to the value of USD74m and imported goods to the value of USD98m. Imports from Singapore in 2016 decreased considerably compared to 2015. This is mainly due to a decrease in the import of refined petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (approx. 88%). The top export products from the Western Cape to Singapore in 2016 was refined petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, followed by fruits, (apples, pears and quinces, grapes), nuts and wines. The fastest growing export product was that of frozen fish, followed by crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates and petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals. The Western Cape’s halal agriproducts and cosmetics are also starting to show growth into the Singapore market.
